XLOV: I’mma Be
XLOV has made a notable entrance into the K-pop scene with their debut single album, "I'mma Be," released on January 7, 2025. The album comprises four tracks: the title track "I'mma Be," its instrumental version, and two remixes—a techno remix and a dark house remix by dxp.
Visually, the group's debut embraces a dark, horror-inspired concept, a theme that has been explored by other K-pop acts in the past. For instance, Red Velvet's "Peek-A-Boo" and "Psycho" music videos delved into gothic and eerie aesthetics, blending haunting visuals with captivating choreography. Which XLOV definitely have in abundance, as I’ve seen a Rui fancam going viral.
I first saw the visuals of "I'mma Be," on Twitter and I was immediately captivated. The production quality and the members' vocal performances are commendable. However, the chorus feels somewhat underwhelming, especially after the momentum built by the verses. The spoken-word pre-chorus, doesn't quite resonate and seems out of place. This is particularly disappointing given the evident talent within the group. After several listens, the song did grow on me, but a more dynamic chorus could have elevated it to an A-grade track.
As XLOV embarks on their journey in the competitive K-pop industry, their initial offering showcases potential. With refined musical direction and continued exploration of their artistic identity, they have the opportunity to make a significant impact in future releases.
